Caring and Growth

My name is Robert Kayekjian. I am of American heritage, having been born and raised in Syria as a Catholic. I came to the United States in 1987. Through the Lord's arrangement I was contacted by the brothers and sisters in the local church and received the Lord through their preaching and was baptized in 1990 when I was 20 years old.

I appreciate the sensitive care I received in the local church as a new believer. After praying to receive the Lord, a brother continued to visit me twice a week for many years. I wondered why he still came to visit after the initial time. Sometimes he came with other brothers and we would sing spiritual songs and pray verses in the Bible. After a long period of about one year, I visited the church's meeting hall on Sunday. I was in awe when I saw so many young people loving the Lord and, after the meeting, many of the attendants came to meet me. I never felt this kind of care before, even from my own relatives. Every Sunday I used to get invited to different homes. When I was away from them I felt down, but when I was around them I felt like I was in heaven. Their care for me was the Lord's sweet shepherding.

The brothers who visited me encouraged me to read the Bible. The ministry of Witness Lee also helped me to grow after I was regenerated. I started to read the ministry books along with the Bible and it seemed as if my capacity and desire to love the Lord increased. It's amazing; you can pick up any ministry book and read it, and it will help you. Through the ministry of Witness Lee I saw that Christ is the center and focus of my Bible reading. It also helped me to experience what I read in the Bible. The Bible is not a history book, it is something experiential.
